KL810 – Jakarta (CGK) to Amsterdam (AMS) With Stopover In Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

This is a relatively similar with my previous post about My Very First Flight To Europe yet I decided to write another one with focused topic on the airline itself, Royal Dutch Airlines as known as KLM.

KLM was founded around one century ago and had their very first intercontinental flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta, which happens to be routine flight (in return flight) until now although it only one flight per day and with stopover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Garuda Indonesia also offers the same path with several schedules to stopover in Changi Airport, Singapore. Both of those airlines offers a direct flight to the Netherlands. I picked KLM for one reason, the price.

I was so excited to be arrived at Europe for first time, but there was a bit of hesitation, will I find something unexpected, will everything go as planned, etc. But well, everything was excellent during my 16 days of vacation around Europe.

Back to the airline review, since KLM 810 was a intercontinental flight with more than 12 hours of flight, but the legroom was too narrow for taller people. I was a bit lucky because I am short and legroom was not a big issue for me. As I saw, there a lot of Caucasian people was not comfortable during the flight, including a man who sat along side with me. For better legroom experience, you may want to upgrade to other classes.

For the catering and food, in my tongue, Singapore Airlines from SIN to LHR had a better taste. For example, noodle that KLM served to me was too sweet and too much soy sauce. SQ also had various of snacks that could be consumed during the flight and taken by ourselves in the galley. As far as I know, KLM did not have that on my experience.

You can also take this flight to stop in Kuala Lumpur. There were so many flight options from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur, but you may want to try this. Yet since only one flight per day, the experience of this flight is only for the night flight.

And, here goes the rating:

  • In Flight Entertainment: 7/10
  • Food/Meals: 5.5/10
  • Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK): 4/10
  • Schiphol International Airport (AMS): 7.5/10
  • Cleanliness: 7.5/10
  • Cabin Crew: 7/10
  • Baggage Claim: 7/10
